Throwing a baby shower doesn’t have to make you broke. From food to favors, there are ways you can cut back on the expenses. Here are some tips on how to throw a baby shower on a budget.

Location
You don’t have to host the event at a club, restaurant or banquet venue. Have the baby shower at home. If the baby shower is in the spring or summer, you can hold it in your backyard or at a nearby park. This gives you the option to make a barbecue or pool baby shower. Make sure to check on the weather and do you need to obtain the permit to use the location.
Decorations
Shop decorations from the dollar store. A lot of decoration essentials can be found there, like paper plates, cupcake wrappers, favor bags and glitter. Purchase items that you can reuse. This will save you a lot of money for the future (i.e. planning another baby shower for a family member or a friend).
DIY
DIY decorations will add the extra touch to the baby shower. You will find a lot of creative ideas on how to make the event even more special on Pinterest. Pinterest is your best friend when it comes to DIY.
Food
Don’t order food from caterers. Instead of that – cook! Even if you’re not good at cooking, cheese, crackers, fruit and sandwiches shouldn’t be a problem to make. You can also ask friends and family to help with the dessert bar.
Invitations
Go paperless. Skip the snail-mail invitations and create the electronic invite (or e-vite) online. It’s faster, easier and more efficient. If some of your guests aren’t tech savvy, you can call them or send them a text message.
Games
Stick with games that require only pen and paper. You can also ask the guests to bring some games. They will feel invested in the baby shower and you will save a couple of dollars.
Flowers
Go to the farmers’ market, purchase flowers and make your own centerpieces. Stick to one signature flower, for example a white lily or pink tulip. Use translucent or monochromatic vases in various sizes. You can also make paper floral arrangements.
Favors
Homemade cookies are the perfect favors for a baby shower on a budget. Pack them in inexpensive cellophane bags from the dollar store and add a pretty ribbon.
